Newborn Baby Tips
1. Take a breath
Your are the perfect mother for your baby, relax no one get its perfectly right in the first few months (years for some of us!) You will be just what your baby needs – his/her mum who loves them unconditionally as time goes by it will all be much easier (yes I did I just say that)
2. Listening To Advice
My advice for listening to advice, is don’t listen! That is to what you don’t want to hear. Everyone will want to offer their comments, advice, suggestions and even horror stories….DON’T LISTEN unless you find it helpful and useful. Listen, politely nod your head and say thank you very much and then disregard the bits that you know will not help.
3. Accept Help
If you are lucky enough to have a caring mother, aunty, friend that wants to help – let them! You do not need to do it all yourself! If you do not have a caring helpful mother, aunty or friend join a mothers group, playgroup or similar service for support. Its tough, time consuming and draining on your energy and time being a new mum so let people help!
4. Search For Information
Information, help, support, freebies and fun groups are everywhere, surf the net, read your local paper, go to your local library, shopping center, magazines and friends with babies. The information links are everywhere, help is everywhere, support is everywhere just look and you will find.
5. Look After Yourself
As mums we tend to look after everyone except ourselves, take breaks when you can, it can be hard but even a 10 minute walk, read a mag or book, a bath any sort of time out for yourself is essential, you cant look after your baby and family properly if you don’t look after you, and you are the center of your family!
Top 5 Essentials
1. A Brilliant Sling
Or two for that matter, these things will save your life! Get one that is for when babe is awake and one that is like a sleeping bag and multi use. You have your hands free to do other things and babe settles because he is up close and personal to his nearest and dearest – his mama! Fabulous and absolute must have!
2. A Bible
By this I mean a great reference book that you can find anything and everything at your fingertips at each issue or stage, ebooks, magazines and directories. Books – buy them or borrow them from the library. Read read and then read some more! You’ll find a couple that you love and help you endlessly.
3. The Right Nappy
It sounds crazy but find the right nappy for your baby and happy days! Whether it be environmentally friendly disposables or cloth there is a HUGE range of choice, there are chlorine free disposable nappies that are biodegradable so do ecobabe, modern cloth nappies, do some research and find one or two that suit your baby for day use and night use.
4. Baby Wrap
If you want your baby to sleep well and comfortably and safely then a great baby wrap is the answer, these things are amazing. Everyone will get a better nights sleep.
5. A Good Friend or Mothers Group
It is fantastic to run ideas and thoughts past someone else that is in the same boat as you. Join groups, meet mums, stay in touch with friends, ask questions, ask for help (if needed), someone to listen when you’ve had a rough day who will understand, because they have been there too!
